“Iiiiiii just wanna fly…”

Hey, remember that pop-rock band from the mid-90s, Sugar Ray?  They had that super catchy song “Fly” and a super dreamy lead singer…what was his name?  Mark something…Mark McGrath was it?  The very same Mark McGrath that I saw as a host on Extra while watching tv with my mom tonight?  Yes, oh yes.

It’s not easy being green…

Last night I watched HGTV’s Living with Ed program for the first time. Living with Ed is a reality-tv show that follows the lives of actor Ed Begley, Jr. and his wife Rachelle Carson, the humor and drama coming mostly from the extreme environmentalism of Begley. Now, I’d known that Begley was über green from having seen him in last year’s Who Killed the Electric Car?, but what I didn’t know was that he’s indeed quite the activist. An excerpt from a speech he gave at UCLA last year demonstrates just how dedicated he is to this cause:

I know I had a reputation of being an “in-your-face” kind of guy, kind of an environmentalist, kind of a gorilla fighter. I’ve been an activist certainly. On a set in 1992, a very frightened assistant director came to me and put a little ear piece in. “Ed can I talk to you for a minute?” “Sure Bill, what’s the matter?” “We got a little problem.” “Did anyone get hurt?” “No, no, can I sit for a minute? We have a shot tonight, but we haven’t been able to find an electric station wagon.” He thought I wouldn’t sit in a regular station wagon. Another time, people were afraid I was going to walk off the set, because they didn’t have a recycling bin. I guess people know that there are many serious people out there, but ultimately it comes down to who’s going to handle it, who’s going to lug the glass bottles or aluminum cans, whatever it is? Who is going to do it, the crafts services guy? Is he going to have time? You got to find the money, you got to find the time, you got to find the common sense approach […]

Ed Begley, Jr. is truly badass. I look forward to watching more Living with Ed.
