Claire Danes and gaps

I just thought of my favorite line from Shopgirl in which Claire Danes’s character asks her male suitor, “Are you the kind of person that takes time to get to know, and then once you get to know them, they’re fabulous?” That question always struck me as odd-sounding, and I think the reason why is because it’s a not-quite parasitic gap.
